This is my sweet friend, Kate, who just happens to be a very wild Mule Deer. She and I have forged a friendship of trust over the past 7.5 years. I have never tried to tame or catch her and pen her up. We have a mutual respect for each other, and I never interact more with her than she is comfortable with. She has had 13 fawns on our wild canyon property over the years, and she often just hangs out with us if we are in the yard or garden. She also lets me pet her. She is the sweetest soul. As a side note, her days are now numbered: Kate is now very sick from eating corn that neighbors have fed her. Corn tears up the digestive tract of deer and destroys their immune system. Currently, Kate has a tumor on her jaw and black spot on her ears. Please, please only feed deer organic fruit like apples, carrots or things they find in their wild environment.
Life has taken me all across the United States and influenced my artwork both culturally and regionally from coast to coast. Growing up in the lush, pristine woods of Michigan, I was initially inspired by nature; but as I grew up and moved from place to place my artwork style and subject matter has changed and grown with me. I studied fine art, graphic design, photography and journalism at Grace College, in Winona Lake, IN, graduating in 1992 with a B.A in Graphic Design. As the wife of a Marine Helicopter Pilot and a mother of two boys, I have lived a rich life of adventure, self discovery and spiritual introspection that is reflected in much of my artwork.
